Tevye's daughters are introduced, and the three oldest, Tzeitel, Hodel, and Chava have a song about the Matchmaker, who must first make a match for Tzeitel, as she's the oldest.

The concept of marrying for love is something all three girls hint at, establishing that Yente, the matchmaker, might pick someone that they wouldn't like to spend the rest of their lives with-- they'd rather wait on the matches.
